www.abi.com.pl In Bangui we stayed in a catholic mission. It had been previously arranged by the people running the project.
We had a few days to reorganise ourselves. I had to apply for a Cameroonian visa and had to get some money. Bangui is a typical black African city, nothing special. It was impossible to withdraw money from the ATM as the city doesn't have any. Travellers checques are also not accepted. Only cash is accepted. Cash which I was running extremely low on.
On the streets was a lot of pick pockets. Every time I was in town somebody was trying to rob me.
The project people had to rest and think about how to proceed on the project further since most of us were sick. The leader Jacek Podkowiak had to work hard on making plans although we decided to choose another leader, Agnieszka Kopinsk, as she was really quick thinking and well oriented with all the objectives in the project.
Maciek had to fly home for further treatment.
Tomek resigned from cycling as his body was totally weak and he couldn't continue on the bike.
It was only Me, Jacek and Agnieszka left. Jacek caught Tyfus somewhere and still had malaria, so he also decided to stay behind and not risk having any more complications. Although the malaria tests had detected plasmodium falciprum in Agnieszka blood, she didn't have any symptoms so she decided to continue with me.
At that time I was the only healthy person in the team.
So, at the beginning of the following week we set off, Agnieszka and I. The only ones who remained from a previous team of 5. As we had cycled together before both of us were happy to be back on the road, leaving the hastles of the town behind us. The landscape around was more interesting than before and we had been making good progress. Just how I like it!! Ready for the adventures awaiting us ahead.
