www.abi.com.pl After a long stretch from Hentis Bay I ended up in Uis in good time, just before the strong afternoon winds came in.
The rest of the day was just re-hydration with fluids and food consumption.
Uis is a small town close to the source of an amazing source of stones (just something that my mother would like the most).
Everywhere locals are trying to make some money from the gem stones, trying to sell them to every passing tourist.
There is quite a few tourists because Uis is situated on the main road from Swakopmund to Twyfelfontein, a place with extraordinary rock paintings.
Not so far form Uis is another place with rock paintings called White Lady Rock Paintings. And the next day after some repairs to my bags I went off to see it.
20 km of one of the worst roads I have encountered up to this day which led me to the foothills of Brandberg. Once there, tickets cost 25 NB including a mandatory guide fee.
After 1.5 h return walk I have seen only one wall with rock paintings!!!! A lack of water was also not helping my spirits.
Then on the way back I travelled uphill and up wind on the same gruelling road. By the time I reached the end of the road my temperament was at a low.
At the end of the day I finished not so far from the place that I started!!
After this disappointing side trip I decided to skip Twyfelfontain which promotes similar attractions- costing money and significantly, my sweat.
On the up side, my travels had brought me into the outskirts of Daramaland, home land of the Namibian tribes which means the end of fences on the side of the road, more colourfull people and some unexpected small villages which my map doesn't show.
Meeting local people in their environment and their observing their culture and importantly their traditional foods!
On the side of the road I was able to see more wildlife which was also bringing more joy to everyday cycling.
