www.abi.com.pl The crossing to Togo was really relaxed and pleasant. The borders were managed well although it was a bit disorganised as is usual in Africa. I was, however, happily surprised when I was bidding my farewells to Benin and I had 'Bon Arrive' on my lips for Togo, when a Togolese official showed an unusual sign of intelligence and put an entry stamp in my passport on a page which was already somewhat full. Showing his care for saving space in my passport!! For you, my friends, it might be normal but for me in this continent it is a sign of higher intelligence!!
Once I arrived I found myself just a couple of metres away from a Caffeteriat!!!! Well, it was fantastic!!!! Although the coffee was just instant Nescafe with sweetened milk, it was an Caffeteriat!!! I got some omelette and some very delicious fresh rolls which I enjoyed with honey as well.
I will remind you that I had been dreaming about fresh rolls since I left Cameroon about one month ago!!!
Togo although not as colourfull as Benin, was a bit cheaper. It seemed to be another country in Africa with all the usual problems, paradox and difficulties. The road to Lome was in a similar state to my inner tubes, meaning full of patches sometimes one on top of the other and not holding!!! Some parts of the road look to have been repaired so many times with all kinds of materials that passing trucks were literally slaloming between deeper holes and pushing a lot of dust in the air so visability was seriously reduced.
The traffic was quite like the Nigerian style and the countryside quite undulating and boring at the same time. I decided to cycle it as fast as possible to get to Lome and have some rest and maybe some fun.
In the meantime my speedometer began to malfunction a bit and some of the kilometres I travelled weren't recorded. It looked like some new problems were mounting but I was determined to go to Lome to see the beach and maybe have a beer!!!
