Welcoming the tar road with relief I cycled from Seronga to Mongu.
Mongu itself appears to be quite a typical African/Zambian town. There is a big market and one main street on which everyone is trying to sell something. Small shops and bigger shops all selling the same chinese stuff.I just stopped to fix some things on my bike and check out the net. I
I decided to make it a day of rest and repair my bike a bit and catch up with my emails.
Mongu is the capital of a Barotseland in the western province and in April it hosts one of the most colourfull festivals in Zambia, the Ku-omboka Festival during which the local King/Chief moves from his palace to another one.
I decided to see his palace.
15 km of cycling later and when I arrived, the guards didn't even allow me to take a photograph of that old rusty building which looks more like like the house of a poor white farmer in S.Africa.
So I had to just have a glimpse of this absurd "palace" and had to organise somebody who to open up the museum.
It took them a while to even get somebody to open the door and of course after that I also had to make an extra trip to the market to get some change for the ticket.
So I have seen this museum. hi hi
I hope the festival is a bit better than this!!!
After a day off I headed off further to Kaoma. On the way I found a really pleasant camping site in the bush with a rising moon at twilight and a lovely sunset hiding behind the tall grass. All kind of Cyclades were singing their songs and there were the inevitable mosquito's all over me and the crackling fire, a sweet tea and bright stars above me. All of this reminded me what Africa is really all about!
