www.abi.com.pl One Zero Five Camp is a place where workers who are building the road are accommodated.
I stayed there because it was the only place where Lions wouldn't be able to get me!!
The road from Nata was full of excitement! First I met an elephant on the side of the road after around 60 km, and in one stretch of 45 km there was around 6 of them.
Single males were just standing on the side of the road flapping their ears and causing a bit of trouble for any passers by.
The first one was polite enough to move more into the bush so I was able to cycle around him without disturbance.
The next two were more stubborn and even tried to charge me twice! With the help of a truck I made it past safely again.
With the next three I saw, it was a similar story but this time I was holding onto the window of a 4WD car so I could pass them safely.
I was really glad to make it to the camp that day knowing that in the evening I might meet lions! People in the camp greeted me warmly and showed me where I could pitch my tent .
All through the next day as I continued on my way, truck drivers resting on the side of the road offered me a ride all the way to Kasane, mentioning that lions had been seen that morning further up the road.
With this in my mind and after my previous day's experience, I was quite ready to accept their offer (and of course the photos would be better if I could get closer to the wildlife in the safety of a car). Just before Kasane, there was a huge herd of elephants crossing the road and I believe that I might have had a serious problem getting through them if I hadn't been in the truck at the time!!
As soon as I got in the truck though, I regretted the decision. Most of the way to Kasane we only saw a few elephants and also the two cyclists I passed on the road going south would have been good to talk wit about their trip!
More or less I got to Kasane with the help of a truck, and after a bit of sightseeing on the side of a river I was invited to a missionary house where some good people answered some of my questions about Zambia.
The next stop... Livingstone.
