So rock and roll, here I go on the really flat roads to Botswana! First a small climb for 15 km out of Windhoek all the way through Gobabiz where I stayed with a friend of some polish friends (long story). And right through to the border. I was against the wind untill Ghanzi. On the blog it is 3-4 sentences but over here the journey was about 6 days. The road is flat, the Kalahari is flat and sandy. I was glad to have this tar road called "Trans Kalahari Hwy". For 6 days. With nothing else except a small settlement on the side of the road from time to time, and "waves"- moving tall grasses in the wind all around me, and the bush!!
Green, all over, everywhere. Dark blue sky on the horizon with danders and sporadic lightening.
Rain drops... a heavy downpour, but I"m still going, drops falling on my helmet with a loud splash. And in a few minutes I'm all wet.
The only option is to still cycle futher. There is no shelter anywhere so you take what the world throws your way and enjoy it, hey???

This border crossing was more than easy, like always there was no "car number" to fill the papers!!
Finally, I got to Ghanzi, had a good filling meal and a day of rest. I checked out the information about Botswana in a really well organised tourist information centre, but the real highlight of the visit was the night I spent on the outskirts of the town.
I was camping like always in the bush when suddenly, about 3 am a loud roar woke me up, and the only thing I could think of was a lion's roar!!!
What a nice suprise!!!!! Later that morning I discovered that I was camping 5 km from a Lodge which had lions behind a fence!
Hee hee, nice!!!

On my way up to Ghanzi I had to replace a tyre I had bought in Opuwo. It was made in India, of course!!! Some problems also started up with my back socket. Hmmmmm.... this is not what I was expecting after a full service in Windhoek 6 days ago.

With a positive attitude and some food in my saddlebags I went off up north. More or less against the winds and the rain.
