I got to Mariental through Maltahohe.
The gravel roads didn't do any good to my back wheel and further buckled it. I tried to fix it but I managed to make such a bad job of it that it became impossible to ride the bike any more. Disaster!!!
For half a day I was waiting for a lift to Maltahohe where a car mechanic did a better job than I could and it was finally possible to ride it again! Although the wheel wasn't completely round, I got to Mariental and with a bit of luck I met up with a local cyclist (one of the people in the Bakery family) and they also offered me their hospitality and assistance.
Luckily they were going to Windhoek the next day to service their bikes anyway, so I went with them and fixed my rear wheel (in Mariental there is no bike shop).
The people in the bike Cyclo Whole Sale company in Windhoek where so kind that they repaired my bike for free, knowing that I have a long way to go and might one day come back to them.
Me and the Bakery family got to know each other and it was fun to stay with them. We had a lot of conversations about life in Namibia and in the evening before my departure I had more than one beer in the local pub. The population of Mariental was limited as it was in the Pub with no more than 6 people, so it was easy to get to know the people and enjoy a friendly atmosphere.
That night left me with good memories of that part of Namibia despite a really bed experience in Helmeringhousen where people were hostile to me and didn't even allow me to sit in the shade of a local Hotel just because I was not as clean and tidy as they would like!!!

The next morning with a couple of rolls in my socks and a good memory captured in a photograph taken in front of the Bakery, I went east into the overgrown Kalahari sand dunes... to my luck on a good tar road!!!
